College of Engineering Admission Test, abbreviated as ECAT.
ECAT
Engineering Colleges Entrance Test (ECAT) is a computer-based test conducted
in May/June every year for admission to BE/BS/BSc Engineering degree in
Punjab, Pakistan. ECAT is conducted by UET (University of Engineering
and Technology) Lahore. It was started in 1998 on the initiative of the
then Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to combat cheating in
the then examinations.
Eligiblity Criteria
The intermediate semester examination or FSC session is over and it is clear
that students are looking for their next academic journey. Here on this
page, we invite students who want to apply for admission in engineering
colleges in 2022. All students who are interested in pursuing a career
in higher education with engineering studies are advised to appear for the
Engineering Entrance Test and the Engineering College Entrance Test (ECAT) in
any of the engineering colleges and universities. Before doing
There are some rules to appear in ECAT 2022 admission and they are as follows:
Subjects
ECAT will be of intermediate level which means FSC, ICS and ICom students can
easily apply. It will be presented in the following groups:
- Physics, Mathematics, English and Chemistry
- Physics, Mathematics, English and Computer Science
- Physics, Mathematics, English and Statistics
- Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology
Candidates having intermediate qualification are advised to choose the group
according to the above group of intermediate subjects.
Candidates eligible in DAE have the option to choose from the following
groups:
- Physics, Mathematics, English, Chemistry or
- Physics, Mathematics, English and Computer Science
Eligiblity
- Students get 60% marks in intermediate level exams.
- Students have a minimum CGPA of 2.5 in the semester system.
- Obtained 50% of total marks calculated as per merit account formula.
Test Pattern
ECAT is basically Computer based subject test. It supports subjects like
Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Computers, and English. The number of
questions and the weightage of the test and sections vary considerably.
Marks Distribution
The test includes 100 MCQs from above Subjects. There are total 400 Marks

Negative Marking
There is negative Marking concept. Total marks are 400 and for each correct
answer there are 4 marks whereas for wrong MCQs -1 Marks. Unattempted
questions have no marks.

Punjab.

Other than that many private universities also accept ECAT for Admissions.
Why ECAT is necessary?
ECAT is important for every FSc student because this is the only way to
get into a government university, without passing it you will not get
admission in government universities.
Engineering College Entrance Test (ECAT) is required for admission in public and private sector engineering
universities and colleges of Pakistan.
ECAT is the best testing tool for engineering students in Pakistan who need to
be a student in an engineering university. He also cleared the ECAT test with
good marks. All the candidates who are intending to get admission in
engineering colleges and universities must clear this ECAT test. ECAT
syllabus consists of four subjects including F.Sc/H.sc Pre-Engineering or
equivalent level Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and English.
